To leverage its technology sector to expand GDP and to secure future competitiveness in the global marketplace, the Russian Federation needed to increase and retain its pool of highly skilled employees meeting industry standards.

The challenge for the educational system was that most universities educate rather than “train” graduates with practical, “ready for work” industry skills. On behalf of Carnegie Mellon University, an expansive assessment process with government, education, industry and investors informed a partnership to develop Innopolis University in the Republic of Tatarstan. Other participating institutions include the National University of Singapore.
