Book Launch as Diplomatic and Inter-Religious Tribute
Elevated a book launch to a high-profile diplomatic and civilizational dialogue at the start of the United Nations General Assembly.
As reported in the New York Daily News:
No wonder everyone from Papal Nuncio Celestino Migliore to Imam Shamsi Alito Rabbi Marc Schneier came to the World Jewish Congress forum for Alexander Mashkevich's new book, "Dialogue of Civilizations: The Next Stage." Mashkevich is a Jewish philanthropist who not only builds synagogues, he builds churches and mosques. Russell Simmons talked to the assemblage of U.N. diplomats about how his and Schneier's Foundation for Ethnic Understanding work to keep that peace activism going.

When Eurasian industrialist Alexander Mashkevich published his book, Dialogue of Civilizations: The Next Stage, the United Nations was just concluding its own high-level panel on the same topic. In his dual capacity as World Jewish Congress Director of International Organizations and Executive Director of the WJC American Section, YourGlobalStrategy co-founder Shai Franklin organized a book launch at the UN in New York. This proactive, bridge-building event took place in September 2008, just as world leaders were arriving for the annual opening of the UN General Assembly, and immediately after a massive rally opposing Iran’s nuclear program.
Those on hand to promote and endorse the book, and its vision of open dialogue and cooperation, included civil rights leaders Rabbi Marc Schneier and hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, the Imam of New York’s flagship mosque, and the Papal Nunzio. In recognition of his tireless work in this cause, the Institute on Religion and Public Policy also presented Mashkevich with its John Paul II Wellspring of Freedom Award.
